As a result of a massive missile attack on Ukraine, the main Dnipro power transmission line has been shut down. It connects the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) with the unified energy system of the country. Information about this was spread by the company Energoatom.
ZNPP, which is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, is connected to the Ukrainian power grid only through one power line ” Zaporizhzhia TPP – Ferrosplavnaya”. This line was only recently restored after previous shelling by the Russian army
The head of Energoatom, Pyotr Kotin, says there are high risks of accidents if the last operational line is disconnected from the national power grid. This would lead to a blackout at Zaporizhzhia NPP, which would significantly worsen the conditions for safe operation of the nuclear plant.
Kotin emphasized the need for Zaporizhzhia NPP to come under the full control of the Ukrainian authorities and its official operator, Energoatom. He once again called on Russia to withdraw its armed forces and equipment from the territory of the nuclear plant.
