Germany called on other nations to join in.
Kyiv has already received missiles to Patriot surface-to-air missile systems, which were sent to it by Madrid and other Western allies. This was announced by Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles.
Margarita Robles also reiterated her condemnation of Russia’s use of cluster bombs against civilians and said it was important to provide Ukraine with missiles to air defense systems:
“Ukraine is defending its sovereignty and human lives. These missiles are for Ukraine so that it can defend itself against the attacks to which it is subjected by Russia.”
The Spanish defense minister did not mention the number of missiles for the Patriot systems.
Earlier, the German Chancellor recalled that his country had decided to transfer the third Patriot SAMs from its arsenals, Tagesschau writes.
“For us, this is a very clear signal that we are ready to help where there is a shortage of ammunition, artillery and weapons,” he said.
Scholz also called on other nations to join in.
“Because we cannot wait for new systems to be produced. We have to make sure that Ukraine gets more air defense options from the existing stockpile,” he said.
