The Russian dictator won’t be able to convince generals to follow orders.
Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski says there is no evidence now that Putin wants to use nuclear weapons. According to Sikorski, Putin’s desire alone is not enough to use nuclear weapons, BILD writes.
“These are not weapons that he can use with the push of a button. There is a regular chain of command from the Defense Ministry and the General Staff to use it. Consequently, he must convince his generals to carry out such an order. These generals know that following such an order means becoming a war criminal. At that moment they will have a choice: either to fulfill such an order or to get rid of Putin,” Sikorski said.
Sikorski also recalled that Washington “very strongly” told Russia that it would use its conventional weapons “to destroy any Russian target in the occupied territories of Ukraine” if Russia decided to launch a nuclear strike. The Polish minister called this US statement “a strong deterrence factor”.
