Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused China of pressuring other countries, urging them not to participate in the upcoming Peace Summit.
Zelenskyy said that China’s pressure on other countries is helping Russia to disrupt the upcoming event in Switzerland. He said, “Russia, using Chinese influence in the region and Chinese diplomats, is doing everything possible to disrupt the peace summit.”
The Ukrainian president also added: “Unfortunately, it is a shame that such a big independent powerful country like China is a tool in Putin’s hands.”
Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the Swiss Peace Summit does not meet Beijing’s criteria for such events and therefore China is “unlikely” to be represented at the summit.
China, known for its close ties with the Russian Federation, has refrained from criticizing the invasion of Ukraine. Western governments have repeatedly accused the Chinese government of helping Russia to wage war. Despite this, however, Beijing has offered its assistance in a peace settlement.
