The Austrian government will not agree to negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU under the current conditions. This was stated by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, speaking to members of the European Parliament.
In Nehammer’s opinion, “there should be no favoritism” towards Ukraine, especially against the background of the ongoing accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has long been asking to join the EU.
Nehammer said that “as a sign of solidarity, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova should also be offered the prospect of accession,” but the Austrian government is against a fast-track procedure for these two states.
Earlier, Hungary and Slovakia opposed Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
