The AFU Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi decided to withdraw units from Avdiivka.
The general announced the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Avdiivka on his official Facebook page. He noted that this decision would make it possible to avoid encirclement and save the lives and health of the military. Now the units will move to defense at more advantageous positions.
He emphasized that the Ukrainian defenders valiantly fulfilled their duty, doing everything possible to destroy the best Russian units, causing the occupants significant losses in both manpower and equipment.
“We are taking measures to stabilize the situation and hold our positions. The lives of servicemen are of the highest value. We will still get Avdiivka back. Glory to Ukraine,” wrote Syrskyi.
Intense fighting in the city continued for a long time. Last night, the “Tavriya” group of troops announced that Russia had captured several Ukrainian fighters.
The third assault brigade noted that the Russian Armed Forces had practically encircled the Ukrainian forces, but they did not manage to close the ring completely.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia had concentrated up to 50,000 troops in the Avdiivka area.
