Zelensky seeks Trump’s help to persuade Musk to broaden Starlink access

This push for expanded Starlink capabilities emerges as Kyiv seeks alternative strategies to reduce its reliance on US Patriot air defence systems, crucial for countering Russia's relentless missile and drone assaults.

During closed-door talks at the White House on 28 July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked for Ukraine to be granted permission to use the Starlink system on Russian territory to strike ballistic missile launchers.

The interceptors are in shorter supply as the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran continues to rage, and Trump on Friday appeared to back away from a recent commitment to give Ukraine a license to produce them.

This is the second such offensive by Moscow in a week, the Associated Press reported.
