They are promised to be introduced in response to “hostility”.

Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that Moscow plans to impose economic and transit sanctions against Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia in response to their “hostile actions”.

According to her, the Russian Federation will take measures primarily in the economic and transit spheres. Zakharova emphasized that “due to the hostile actions of the Baltic capitals – Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn – all interstate, interdepartmental, regional and sectoral ties with Russia have been severed.”

She also indicated that while Moscow will continue to use diplomatic measures to influence the Baltic states, she considers the severing of diplomatic relations with these states “undesirable.”

“Termination of diplomatic missions in this situation would mean that citizens of our country living in the Baltics and hundreds of thousands of compatriots would be left alone with police arbitrariness,” Zakharova added.
