Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Wednesday that President Biden is aware of Putin’s recent statements on nuclear weapons, which she said are an attempt at blackmail.

White House Speaker Karine Jean-Pierre said the U.S. sees no signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons, including in Ukraine, despite Putin’s new threats against the West.

“The president is certainly aware,” she said when asked if the head of state was informed of Putin’s nuclear threats.

She also noted that the Russian dictator reiterated the country’s nuclear doctrine in his interview, but his remarks remain reckless and unreasonable throughout the war Russia has launched against Ukraine.

Nevertheless, the White House spokeswoman emphasized that there is no reason to change the American nuclear strategy at the moment.

“There is no indication that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine,” Karine Jean-Pierre added.
