Ukraine Strikes Russia’s Largest Oil Refinery in Western Siberia

The fuel crisis, which escalated first in Russian-controlled Crimea and prompted a state of emergency and a full ban on fuel sales to ordinary people on June 21, is now reaching across Russia’s 11 time zones.

The Gazprom-owned oil refinery, located in Siberia, more than 2,500 kilometers away from the front line, processes more than 22 million tons of oil per year — around 10 percent of the total oil refined in Russia.

Mr Gerashchenko posted footage of flames at the facility, confirming multiple “Fire Point” drone strikes on what had been Russia’s only major undamaged refinery.

Just a few days later, Sadovnikova found herself waiting 18 hours to fill up in the city of Irkutsk, in eastern Siberia, almost 5000 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
