Slovak citizens have raised funds to buy ammunition for Ukraine from the Czech company STV Group, the STK news agency has said.

The organizers of the collection said that 2,692 artillery shells would be delivered to Kyiv by the end of summer at the latest. The collection campaign began in April after Bratislava refused to join the Czech initiative to buy shells for Kyiv.

Initially, the organizers planned to raise €1 million, but this amount was collected in just two days. In the end, more than 65 thousand people donated €4 million as part of the “Ammunition for Ukraine” initiative.

Dodo Dobrik, a member of the civic initiative “Gift for Putin,” said that they consult with the Czech Ministry of Defense on all purchases. The ministry confirms the adequacy of prices for the shells and equipment being purchased.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico opposed arms supplies to Ukraine and criticized the fundraising. In an interview with Joj24, he said that it would not change the situation on the front and pointed to more important issues in his opinion, such as caring for cancer patients.
