He was accused of “cooperation with foreigners” because of his interview with a Ukrainian journalist.
Russian occupier Pavel Guguyev is a former prisoner convicted of murder, causing injury to health of medium severity and theft. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2013. He spent 10 years in prison before going to war in Ukraine, where he was captured.
While in captivity, Guguev gave an interview to Karpenko, it was released on the YouTube channel of blogger Vladimir Zolkin. In the video, the war veteran spoke about heavy losses among the Russian military and criticized the army leadership.
Shortly after the interview, Guguyev was exchanged. Once in Russia, he said in another interview, but to a Russian publication, that the prisoners returned from captivity were held in a military unit near Moscow for more than a month. He also said that he was not provided with the therapy necessary for HIV.
As the publication “Cold” wrote, after the release of the interview, all the former prisoners, who are in the same unit with him, had their phones taken away and were forbidden to go out and receive packages. Guguev himself was then locked up for several days in an isolated room that used to be used as a weapons room, another former prisoner told journalists.
