The deputy’s party does not (preliminarily) gain the required number of votes.
The 74-year-old MP’s party “Latvian Russian Union”, whose sole representative was Ždanoka, cannot (preliminarily) get enough votes to retain its representation. The party won just one seat in the European Parliament in the 2019 elections.
Tatjana Ždanoka is a Latvian politician and MEP representing the Russian Union of Latvia party. She is known for her active stance on “protecting” the rights of the Russian-speaking population of Latvia.
Ždanoka has been repeatedly accused of having ties with Russian security services, including the FSB. Her critics claim that she promotes Russian interests in Latvia and the European Parliament using her political platform. Ždanoka denies the allegations, saying her activities are aimed at “protecting the rights of the Russian-speaking population and countering discrimination.”
Earlier, investigative journalists established that the politician has contacts with FSB officers and regularly communicates with them to organize events in support of the Russian Federation.
