The decision comes after an illegal immigrant attacked a Polish border guard.
Donald Tusk stated this during a press conference in the village of Dubiće Cerkiewne, located near the border with Belarus. According to the Prime Minister, it is planned to restore a buffer zone on a strip about 200 meters wide from the borderline.
The Prime Minister also announced the allocation of “all available resources” to secure the border: “I want to convey this to everyone. There is no room for any negotiation here. You can use any available methods, the Polish border must be protected.”
Tusk’s call was echoed by Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, saying, “All available means are at your disposal.”
The minister characterized the attack on the Polish soldier as a “gangster”: “It’s a situation, which is getting more and more complicated every day, it’s an organized action of the Belarusian services.
A Polish border guard was stabbed when a foreigner tried to break through the barrier at the border with Belarus. Deputy head of the Polish Defense Ministry Cezary Tomczyk emphasized that the wounded border guard was in a serious condition.
