Presumably, the new shells have a dual purpose.
North Korea reported the development of guided projectiles for MLRS, they have a flight control system. Experts note that this weapon could end up in Russia’s arsenal.
According to Yonhap, the new munitions have a caliber of 240 mm. The military conducted a successful test on Sunday.
The DPRK authorities claim that technical modernization of the shells will increase the effectiveness of MLRS on the battlefield and reevaluate their strategic importance. Currently, such systems are deployed near the border with South Korea and aimed at its capital, Seoul.

According to the publication, the test coincides with the growing military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang. In this regard, the new shells will probably be exported to Russia.
“This 240-millimeter multiple rocket launcher shell probably has a dual purpose. From a practical point of view, there is a possibility that it is being considered for export to Russia, and from a political point of view, it may be intended to pressure South Korea,” said Hong Min, a senior fellow at the Korea Institute for National Unification.
Earlier, Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Ukrainian State Security Service, said that North Korea was the main supplier of weapons to Russia.
