Lukoil Vice President Vitaly Robertus, whose “sudden” death was reported in the company yesterday, was found hanged on a shoelace right in his office.
The law enforcement officers who arrived, surprisingly very quickly, were told by colleagues that there had been a nervous atmosphere at work recently, and the vice president himself had a recent conflict with senior management.
In total, about 20 top managers of Russian oil and gas companies have died under mysterious circumstances in the last 2 years.
At Lukoil itself, this is the 4th case of “sudden” death of a top manager.
In September 2022, Ravil Maganov, the 67-year-old head of Lukoil’s board of directors, died. Russian media wrote that he fell out of a hospital window. In May 2022, former Vice President Alexander Subbotin died. According to the media, the death occurred during an unsuccessful session with shamans, during which Subbotin tried to cure his alcohol problems with the help of toad venom. In October 2023, Vladimir Nekrasov, the head of the company’s board of directors, died at the age of 66 due to “heart failure”.
