In Morocco, young people dreaming of reaching Ceuta face a dead end: ‘I feel like I’m standing still while my daughter grows up’

More than a dozen women have set up camp on a wooded roadside running up to the barbed wire fencing that surrounds the government-run migrant reception centre, near the urban beach of El Trampolin.

Spain is building four temporary reception sites with 1,500 places as an estimated 5,000 migrants remain in Ceuta after more than 72,000 people crossed from Morocco in July.

So when they heard rumors that Morocco’s border with Spain was open, they decided to join the rush to try to reach Europe.
