Australia's Albanese Declares Nov For Major Gun Buyback Scheme After Bondi Beach Shooting
New South Wales will launch a new gun buyback programme in November as part of the national response to last year’s Bondi Beach attack that killed 15 people.
Gun ownership reforms already introduced by the state mean individuals can only own four firearms – although some people, such as farmers and sports shooters, can own a maximum of 10.
The Coalition has ridiculed the federal government’s failure to roll out the national gun buyback scheme after it took almost eight months for a deal to be struck with Labor-led NSW while negotiations with other jurisdictions like Victoria remain at a standstill.
The alleged gunmen used powerful firearms that were legally obtained.
