US appeals court blocks Trump’s $400 million White House ballroom project
The Trump administration has been ordered to stop construction on President Donald Trump's $400m (£297m) ballroom at the White House.
The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Friday upheld a preliminary injunction secured by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Notably the U.S. appeals court stayed its ruling for two weeks, giving the Trump administration time to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court and setting the stage for a potential high-stakes legal battle over executive power.
Donald Trump, who demolished the historic East Wing of the White House last year to make way for planned ballroom, has repeatedly touted it as “a gift” to the US people.
