Four migrants die on busy day for small boat Channel crossings
The average number of people cramming into vessels trying to cross the English Channel has soared to nearly 66 under Labour, with record 165 migrants packed onto a 42ft “mega dinghy” longer than a double-decker bus last week.
French officials confirmed their deaths after several hundred people crossed the Channel into the UK on Wednesday.
Rescue services took six people, including a one-year-old, into their care.
Video shows dozens of migrants, including families with young children, walking into the sea from Gravelines beach in northern France as they attempt to board a small rigid-inflatable boat heading towards England.
