Hamas elects Khalil al-Hayya as group’s new leader – World News
Lead Gaza negotiator replaces slain Yahya Al Sinwar as Hamas political chief
His appointment came after a run-off vote within the movement’s General Shura Council against former political chief Khaled Meshaal, after neither candidate secured the required 50 percent plus one majority in earlier voting.
The Hamas terrorist organization announced the appointment of Khalil al-Hayya as head of its political bureau, succeeding Yahya Sinwar.
He was a close associate of Sinwar and is seen as continuing the political line going back to the late Ismail Haniyeh.
