Guyana: Dozens feared dead after ferry capsizes
A massive search and rescue operation is underway off the North Atlantic coast of Guyana after a passenger ferry capsized late Saturday night, leaving dozens of people missing.
A distress call was received shortly after 11pm, prompting an emergency response involving the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard and Air Corps, private aircraft, fishing vessels and civilian volunteers.
No survivors have been found since Sunday afternoon, when Guyanese authorities announced they had rescued 67 people, including 15 children.
The ferry MV Barima left the small English-speaking country at the northeast corner of South America on Saturday afternoon with 133 people aboard for a trip from the capital, Georgetown, to the town of Port Kaituma.
