Southport: Australian Lucas Herbert has fallen short in his bid win the British Open as Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox made a clutch birdie putt on the final hole to seal his country’s first victory in the tournament in 63 years.
He was one of only three players in the final 12 groups to shoot under par on a chaotic final day when Royal Birkdale finally showed its teeth after two days of record-equalling rounds of 62.
18 holes later he sat atop the leaderboard after tying major championship history with an eight-under, 62.
