Thomas Tuchel has ‘no regrets’ over defensive substitutions in England’s loss to Argentina
The universe had aligned to give him the most beautiful goodbye any footballer could have imagined – victory in the World Cup at his fifth and surely final attempt, now to ascend into Argentinian football Valhalla to feast alongside Diego.
With just six minutes of normal time remaining in Atlanta, the Three Lions were leading and dreaming of a first final since 1966.
Despite Thomas Tuchel's side taking the lead shortly after half time, with a goal from Anthony Gordon, Argentina responded by scoring two goals – dashing hopes of the World Cup final including England.
Instead, Argentina overwhelmed the Three Lions with relentless pressure before Enzo Fernández equalized in the 85th minute and substitute Lautaro Martínez headed in the winner in stoppage time.
