UK: Nigel Farage resigns as MP, to run again in by-election

A furious Nigel Farage has announced he will quit as an MP and fight a by-election after coming under intense pressure over unregistered donations of cash and support.

He made the statement as part of a wide-ranging and at times heated speech, which lasted roughly 20 minutes and was broadcast on his social media platforms.

The move — announced in an emotive press conference in London — comes after weeks of scrutiny of the right-wing populist leader, whose party continues to lead in the national polls.
