Mamdani blasts ICE agents, Elon Musk and 'supremacy' in America 250 speech ahead of July 4 weekend
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has drawn attention after delivering remarks at an America 250 ceremony that appeared to indirectly criticize President Donald Trump, prompting questions over whether his speech amounted to a political swipe.
From behind George Washington’s desk inside New York City Hall, Mayor Zohran Mamdani marked the nation’s 250th anniversary with an address that sought to redefine “American exceptionalism” against a tide of anti-immigrant and anti-democratic forces under President Donald Trump and his allies.
The mayor delivered his address alongside 10 newly naturalized citizens, who were holding miniature flags, as he reflected on his path of becoming an American citizen in 2018.
The speech, meant to contrast to President Donald Trump’s planned remarks at Mount Rushmore, was steeped in symbolism and centered immigration as its primary theme.
