US downs multiple Iranian drones in Strait of Hormuz amid peace talks
The interception came after weeks of halting talks between Tehran and Washington, mediated by Pakistan, that have been marked by threats and exchanges of fire despite a fragile truce agreed in April.
The Embassy of Iran in India on Saturday rejected allegations made by US President Donald Trump regarding an Indian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the claims as “baseless” and accusing Washington of attempting to shift attention away from recent attacks on commercial ships carrying Indian seafarers.
Trump’s contention came in a post on his Truth Social platform against the backdrop of last-mile negotiations between the US and Iran on a peace deal that is expected to build on the ceasefire finalised in April.
In the same post, Trump also accused Iran of leaking the terms of the peace deal to the media that had nothing to do with the points under discussion.
