Obama judge rules on effort to block America 250 events at WH and Lincoln Memorial
U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta’s ruling allows organizers to use the White House lawn as the venue for Sunday’s planned UFC mixed martial arts event.
Sunday will bring an unprecedented event, where seven fights will play out as a celebration of 250 years of the United States, but also coinciding with the 80th birthday of US President Donald Trump.
The organizers, Judge Mehta wrote, “point to the near yearlong planning of the event; coordination with multiple government agencies, including the Secret Service; site work that began May 20 and has involved between 700 to 900 workers; multiple equipment deliveries; event ticketing logistics; and preparations of the contracted U.F.C. fighters.”
A combination of extreme heat and a risk of thunderstorms is forecast for Washington, D.C., on Sunday, potentially affecting plans around a major UFC Freedom 250 event being held as part of celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and on President Donald Trump's 80th birthday.
