Bear captured in Japan after multi-day search as attacks rise
A wandering bear that scared residents of a Japanese city just north of Tokyo was captured on Tuesday after several days of panic during which all schools were closed.
Residents of Utsunomiya have been urged to stay indoors as police and hunters track the animal, which was spotted inside a shopping arcade
The closures come as bears emerge from hibernation and start appearing more in populated areas across parts of Japan.
The city government of Utsunomiya, north of Tokyo, closed all 94 public primary and junior high schools in the area after receiving more than 10 reports of bear sightings since Saturday — including in a shopping arcade.
