After almost four years away from tennis, Serena Williams is set to return to the court
The 23-time grand slam champion has received a doubles wildcard to play at the HSBC Championships at the Queen’s Club in west London, which starts on Monday 8 June, ahead of a likely return at Wimbledon later in the month.
Tournament director Laura Robson was live on air for TNT Sports’ UK coverage of the French Open when the news was confirmed, and was grilled by McEnroe over Williams’ plans, but couldn’t speak about anything other than Queen’s.
She last played on the WTA Tour in September 2022 and retired from professional tennis after a third-round defeat at the US Open.
The tournament begins in London at The Queen’s Club on Saturday and it runs through June 21.
