Durbin warns DOJ against compensating ‘rioters’ in ‘anti-weaponization’ fund
72 billion in funding for ICE and Border Patrol is now in limbo after GOP senators revolted against President Trump's $1.776B "anti-weaponization fund" on Thursday.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is meeting with Republican senators on Thursday morning about the Department of Justice's controversial "lawfare" fund, as pushback grows in Congress over the idea of paying out settlements to people who attacked police during the U.S. Capitol riot in 2021.
One way to do so would be to add limits to the $72 billion immigration enforcement bill Republicans are planning to ram through the Senate along party lines beginning as early as Thursday.
This time, the fury is directed toward the Trump administration and the surprise "anti-weaponization" fund created by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
