Trump endorses Paxton in Texas Senate GOP runoff, in blow to Cornyn
Current GOP Senator John Cornyn is up against current Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to be the party's candidate in this November's midterms, but the president has so far avoided backing any one contender.
Cornyn, who has served in the Senate since 2003, faces scandal-scarred Paxton in a May 26 runoff after neither secured a majority in their three-way March primary election.
Trump also formally endorsed Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity for governor, calling the retired Army Reserve colonel "a true America First Patriot" who would "grow the economy, cut taxes and regulations," and "safeguard our elections."
The nominee will take on Democrat James Talarico in the fall.
