Colorado governor grants clemency to former county elections clerk Tina Peters
Jared Polis on Friday commuted the sentence of election conspiracy theorist Tina Peters following pressure from President Donald Trump, the latest instance of the president using his powers to reward those who echoed his baseless claims of mass fraud as the cause of his 2020 loss.
Tina Peters, who is currently incarcerated, will be released on parole on 1 June after Polis reduced her sentence from eight and a half years in prison to about four and a half.
She had been serving a roughly nine-year sentence for tampering with county voting and records equipment after the 2020 election.
The move comes after a state appeals court found last month that Peters’ lengthy sentence was improper and directed she be resentenced.
