Denise Powell Wins Tight Democratic Primary for Open House Seat in Nebraska
With longtime Republican Representative Don Bacon retiring, the Omaha‑based district is suddenly wide open, and national operatives from both parties are pouring in money, endorsements, and attention.
Representative Don Bacon, the Republican incumbent in the district and a frequent critic of President Trump, chose not to run for re-election, setting up a high-profile clash for an open seat in Omaha.
Powell had 39% to Cavanaugh’s 37% in the primary with about 90% of the expected vote tallied.
The second congressional district is a key pickup potential for Democrats if they want to regain control of the US House.
