US aid to Ukraine has slowed during Trump second term
A small bloc of GOP lawmakers defied their leadership — and President Donald Trump — by forcing the House to soon take up a major bill to deliver US military support to Ukraine while imposing steep sanctions on Russia.
The legislation, introduced by Representative Gregory W. Meeks of New York, the top Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Committee, had languished for months as its backers remained just one signature short of the support they would need to steer around the leadership and secure quick action.
The bill also would replenish U.S. weapons stockpiles, support postwar reconstruction financing, and impose additional sanctions on Russia and its allies.
