President Biden himself will still not be there.

The US delegation to the peace summit in Switzerland will be headed by Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

Harris will express support for Ukraine in its efforts “to secure a just and lasting peace” that must be based “on sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.

“The Vice President will reaffirm support for the people of Ukraine as they defend themselves against ongoing Russian aggression. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will join the Vice President to represent the United States at the Summit,” the White House said.

On May 24, Bloomberg reported that Joe Biden will miss the summit in Switzerland because of an event in California, where actors and other politicians will participate in a fundraiser for his campaign.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy later urged him and Xi Jinping to “support the peace summit with their personal leadership and participation.” According to The Financial Times, Zelenskyy’s office instructed Ukrainian officials to criticize the US and Chinese leaders for refusing to go to the conference.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Biden’s decision not to go to Switzerland “not very strong”.
