The Wall Street Journal says that Kyiv is asking Washington for help to strike targets on the territory of Russia.
Ukraine has asked the Biden administration to help identify targets in Russia that Kyiv could strike with its weapons.
Kyiv also asked Washington to lift restrictions on the use of American-provided weapons against military targets in Russia, U.S. officials and Pentagon officials said.
The request comes at a time when Russia has launched an offensive in the Kharkiv region that could be followed by threatening consequences.
Kyiv’s request, made last week, is now under review.
If the U.S. agrees to such a change, it could mark a major shift in administration policy.
“They did ask the U.S. for help in striking Russia. It wasn’t about a specific weapons system, it was about additional assistance in striking the Russians,” said U.S. Air Force Gen. Charles Brown Jr.
