The U.S. Air Force has contracted private aerospace company Sierra Nevada Corp to build a new “Doomsday plane” to replace the enddating E-4 Nightwatch. This is reported by Reuters.
Such type of airplanes are used as an airborne command post in an event of nuclear war, disaster or other large scale conflict.
Work on the project will be finished in 2036. The contract amount is 13 billion dollars.
