Some of the equipment will arrive in Ukraine only in a year.
The UK Ministry of Defense has not spent more than half of the £900 million provided by the international military fund for Ukraine. The reason for the delay was bureaucratic obstacles during the conclusion of contracts.
Only £404 million of the allocated money has been used. Officials admitted that under some contracts the equipment would be delivered to Ukraine no earlier than next spring.
Defense Ministry representatives explained the delays by the need to assess the number of defense companies participating in the tenders.
The International Support Fund for Ukraine was established in August 2022 to finance equipment deliveries to Kyiv. It was supposed to be a “flexible fund with a low level of bureaucracy”. Various countries contributed to its creation: Denmark pledged £133 million, Iceland £3 million, Lithuania £5 million, the Netherlands £110 million, Norway £119 million, Sweden and Australia £26 million each, and New Zealand £4 million.
