The publication reports on possible informal talks between NATO and Ukrainian leaders on the country’s rapid accession to the alliance.
Commenting on the La Repubblica article, BILD columnist Mark Oliver Rühle said that NATO was considering the option of admitting Ukraine to the alliance, which implied Kyiv’s renunciation of the occupied territories.
The journalist quoted NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg as saying that the key to “sustainable peace in Ukraine lies in securing the AFU”. This should convince Putin that it is impossible to defeat Ukraine.
Rühle emphasizes that Stoltenberg’s remarks do not contradict the idea of “partitioning the territory and immediate accession of Ukraine to NATO”. He recalls the postwar division of Germany when the GDR was formed in the Soviet zone of occupation, which existed until 1990.
