Russia has started mass production of the heaviest planning bomb FAB-1500-M54. These one and a half ton bombs are increasingly being used in Ukraine. Recently, a FAB-1500-M54 was dropped on a multi-story building in the town of Krasnogorovka, near Donetsk.

Russian propagandists filmed the FAB-1500 explosion from two different angles. One of the recordings shows the bomb being dropped on a residential neighborhood, falling and exploding, unleashing a fireball 20 stories high.

The head of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, warned as early as November 2023 that Russia was showing signs of “preparations for mass deployment of FAB-1500s.”

In February of that year, Russia’s defense minister, Sergei Shoigu, visited the factory where these bombs are produced. Russian propaganda at the time said that they had been in production since the beginning of the war.

The FAB-1500-M54 is a further development of the KAB-1500 bomb, which was developed in the Soviet Union in the 1970s and used since the 1980s.
