According to the Nepalese government and local media, up to 200 citizens of the country are now serving as volunteers in the Russian army, about 10 people have died. Nothing is known about the fate of about a hundred people who went to Russia. According to official data, over the past two years, more than 800 Nepalis have received work permits in Russia.

Earlier, the Nepalese authorities asked the Russian Federation not to take their citizens into the Russian army – this message was made against the background of the death of several Nepalese in the war zone. They also put forward a request to return the bodies of the dead back home and pay compensation to their families.

In December, it became known that the Nepalese police detained at least 10 people on suspicion of recruiting residents of the country for the war in Ukraine. According to the investigation, the detainees took money from unemployed Nepalis and sent them to Russia on tourist visas.
