China has appointed a new defence minister

Admiral Dong Jun, former commander of the country's navy, has been appointed, Xinhua news agency reported.

The previous minister Li Shanfu was removed from his post in оctober. The сhinese government has not disclosed the reasons for his resignation. However, western media reported that he is under investigation for suspected corruption.

Dong Jun is known for his bellicose stance towards Taiwan: he promised an immediate outbreak of war if the island declares its independence.
