South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that 682 items, including heavy construction equipment, rechargeable batteries, aircraft components, and machinery, will be added to the list of prohibited exports.
The ministry said that the decision was made to prevent the possible diversion of those items for military use, even though they are not considered strategic items under South Korea’s export control scheme. The new restrictions are expected to have a significant impact on the trade relations between South Korea and the two countries.
