It is reported that the name of the arrested person is Vladimir Jovancic. According to the Croatian prosecutor’s office, he “and other persons associated with the Serbian organized crime group” organized the escape of Uss Jr. They got into the governor’s son’s home by pretending to be grocery deliverymen. Jovancic escorted the Russian to the car and gave him bolt cutters, with which Uss removed an electronic ankle bracelet. After that, the Bosnian and his accomplices allegedly drove Artem Uss to Slovenia. They then traveled to Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
According to US authorities, Jovancic received about 50,000 euros for his work. He was charged with obstruction of justice and inciting or facilitating escape.
In October 2022, Artem Uss was detained in Italy at the request of the U.S. Department of Justice. In March 2023, Uss escaped from house arrest. In April, he reported that he was in Russia.
The US State Department announced a reward of $7 million for information on the whereabouts of Artem Uss. He is accused of money laundering and oil smuggling.
