The Republic of Cyprus has taken a decisive step by instructing its banks to halt all transactions involving the Russian ruble. The directive, which encompasses all banking operations in Cyprus, a nation renowned for its robust financial services industry, signals a growing trend of isolating Russia from the global banking system.

Under the doctrine of «repression and prevention», the Cypriot government aims to restore the nation’s reputation by actively collaborating with the United States in investigating potential violations of sanctions against Russia.

Investigations are underway within law and accounting offices to uncover potential abuses of the expedited business registration process. This process has allegedly been exploited by Russians seeking residence and work permits in Cyprus, taking advantage of tax exemptions.
