Josh Kerr breaks 27-year-old mile record in front of packed London stadium
The 28-year-old smashed Hicham El Guerrouj’s 27-year-old men’s mile world record, clocking an incredible 3 minutes 42.66 seconds at London Stadium.
The former 1500m world champion and double Olympic medalist could scarcely have been more bullish about his prospects of making history at the London Diamond League on Saturday, boldly announcing his bid back in March, before the outdoor season had even begun.
The record, previously set at 3:43.13 by Morocco's El Guerrouj in Rome in July 1999, had stood as one of the oldest and most revered marks in outdoor track and field.
Josh Kerr is trying to take down a living legend and believes everything is falling into place in his mile world-record bid.
